(e). Is it possible to verify the following report which
appeared in the "Bataviasche Handelsblad of 6th.
November, 1915;-
'D.D. We learn that Konsiour E. F. E. Douwes Dekker
is staying at Shangai at present on his voyage to
Singapore. It is absolutely contrary to the truth
that recording to the opinion expressed in various circles Douwes Dekker would make this long journey
from Europe via America and China to Singapore at
the expense of his party (Tado-fund), lions. Douwes
Dekker is at present in the employ of a European fix
firm and the journey started upon by him takes place neording to instructions. The monies of the
T-do-fund -re used for the educ-tion of the children
of Douwes Dekker. The party promised at the time
that, when obstacles would come in its lender'r wy,
it would look after the education of his childron.
At present it is redeeming the pledge monde' ".
The Vice-Consul also informed me that he was a man the
plotted amongst the Indian Community and would Lost likely assist
the Indian seditionists against British Rule. He requested that
Mr. Dekker be sent to Java so that the Dutch Authorities could
arrest him and intern him in the island mentioned above.
As Mr. Dekker is still in hospital I have been ble
to question him. A search of his bagenge gives little information. The only commercial items are two sample mensures. His bocks are
on the socialistic line. There is one letter to his wife snying
he is suffering from dysentery but cannot say much on account of
the censor,
md that he desires to return to Java.
